Frequently Asked Questions


1.  How much does the Race cost?

Club Runners - £12,  Non Club runners - £14,  On the Day (all) - £15

2. What is the minimum age for a person to run the half marathon?

The minimum age is 17 on the day as per UK Athletic Rules.  Runners can still be 16 when they enter but must have reached 17 by race day.

3. Is the Course hilly?

Yes it is, see the guest book and the course map.

4.  Will there be refreshments available?

Yes, hot and cold food and drinks will  be available.

5.  Where are the Water and Sponge Stations?

There are 5 water stations at about 3 miles, 5 miles, 7 miles, 10 miles and 12 miles. Sponge stations are provided just before the 7 and 10 mile water points. All are clearly marked on course maps.

6.  Can I enter on the Day?

Yes, registration opens at 8.30am & closes at 9.45am.

7.  Will ‘on the day’ entrants be eligible for prizes?

Yes. Eligibility will be exactly the same as pre-entered runners. All runners will receive a T-Shirt and Goody Bag.

8.  How do I get to the race and where do I park?

9.  Is there Bag storage, changing, toilets and shower facilities?

Yes on all 4 counts. Bag Storage will be manned at all times.

10.  What size are the T-shirts?

There will be a range of small, medium and large T-shirts, the numbers of each we will estimated based on previous races. Inevitably if you finish in the last 10% of the runners you may not receive your size!   


11.  Is there are cut off time?

We aim to have a cut off at around 2½ hours. The sweep bus will travel behind the last runner as far as possible but must keep to the 2½ hour pace to provide the safety service for those ahead too.

 12.  When will the results be available and how much will they cost?

We aim to post the results for the top 50 runners by 11.40am and will be updated throughout the day. You can indicate on your entry form that you wish to receive e-mailed results the day after the race for 50p extra. On the day of the race, you will also be offered the option to order an e-mail (50p) or have results posted to you (£1). Full results will be on the website the following  Monday and in the Mansfield CHAD the following Wednesday.

13.  Are wheelchair entries accepted?

Unfortunately, we do not believe the course offers the safety that wheelchair users should expect from a half marathon and, therefore, we are currently unable to accept wheelchair entries. Wheelchairs can, however, take part in the Fun Run.

 14.  What are the current course records?

The Course record for the previous course is held by Neo Molema with a time of 65 mins 34 secs set in 2005. A new course record will be set this year at our new venue.

 15.  Where can I find previous race results?

The results from 2003 onwards will be posted on this site. We are currently working on uploading results from earlier years also.

16.  Do you accept credit card payment?

No, unfortunately we do not yet have this facility.

 17.  When is the last accepted postal entry?

Last postal entry must be received by Saturday, 21st June 2008. Race numbers for any entries received after this time can be collected on the registration desk from 8.30am on the day of the race.

18.  When do the roads around the site close?

The roads around the start area will be closed from 9-30am. There will be vehicle access onto Berryhill Park via Blackscotch Lane ONLY for competitors. Race car park is only 200m from race HQ. Police will be closing roads on the course as race progresses and reopening them as soon as possible as runners have passed through

19.  When does the Race Information come out to runners?

Race numbers and information will start to be mailed out on Monday, 19th May. For entries received after that date we aim to turn around the number and info within 72 hours.

20Where can I watch the race as a spectator?

The new course is a single large lap.


21.  Can Veteran runners win more than one prize?

Yes. The top 50 men and top 10 women to finish will receive that particular prize regardless of whether they are a veteran or not. Prizes will be awarded in addition to the top 50 /10 to the leading veteran in each age group (5 year bands). In 2003 almost half of the runners in the top 50 were veterans,

22.  If I pre-enter do I have to report in on the day?

It is NOT necessary for pre-entered runners to ‘sign in’ BEFORE the race. You will receive your race number with your race information pack. You just need to go straight to the start line.

23.  Are mile markers available on the course?

Yes. There will be a mile marker clearly displayed at each mile. In addition there will be a half way point identified and count down to the finish from 13 miles. Time splits will be shouted out to all runners at 5 and 10 miles.

24.  What if I lose my number or it does not arrive in the post?

Go to the information desk on the morning of the race and we will deal with that problem.

25.  How will I know if my entry has been accepted?

All postal and on-line entries WILL be accepted. We will post out Information packs, which will include your race number from Monday 19t May 2008. If you have entered before that date then this is the earliest you will receive any communication from us. We will post out our last batch of Information packs on Tuesday 24th June 2008. Please note that the information line will NOT be the same person that handles entries. Any queries will be dealt with at the Information desk on THE MORNING OF THE RACE.
